Aidan Guttormson

In Situ Monitoring Biologist, IISD-ELA

Aidan is an In Situ Monitoring Biologist with IISD Experimental Lakes Area (IISD-ELA).

He oversees the management, deployment and maintenance of sensors that collect high-frequency water quality data on IISD-ELA lakes. These data support both long-term ecological research and whole-ecosystem experiments conducted at the site.

Previously, Aidan has worked as an undergraduate summer assistant with the operations team as well as a research assistant with the ecotoxicology team at IISD-ELA. He went on to conduct his Master’s field research at the site, exploring the efficacy of wetland plants for bioremediating freshwater oil spills.

He holds a Master of Science in Biosystems Engineering from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Engineering in Bioresource Engineering from McGill University.
